Olympic Showjumping - 18th August
The Showjumping is getting exciting! The Australian team was in 8th position (equal with Germany!) at the end of Round 1, thus putting them
through into Round 2 (tonight) to fight it out for the Medals!!
Individually, the riders also all going extremely well - all through to the 3rd Qualifying round (tonight, in conjunction with the teams
event). Hope I've got all that correct, the rules and rounds etc of the Showjumping are quite complicated. But the bottom line is -
Australia is doing SUPER WELL!!!!
VIDEO ~25 mins (50MB). Include all Aussie riders, the few after Matt and
the jump off between USA & Canada.

What a night!!! An absolutely sensational effort by the Australians! Edwina jumping a double clear, Laurie just 4 faults and Matt with 17.
Poor Peter, his horse Genoa stumbled and flipped in the warm up, the horse is ok but Peter has
broken his collarbone. Sending Peter get well vibes!
So the Aussie team finish in 9th position. This is an exciting time for Australian Showjumping - they have shown the world that they are on
the up and up. Look out London!!
USA & Canada had to jump off to determine Gold & Silver! USA taking Gold, Canada Silver and Norway takes Bronze!
Edwina (sitting in a sensational =2nd position after this round!) is through to the Individual final on Thursday, along with Laurie.
I think Matt is just outside qualifying for the
individual final.
Olympic Showjumping - 17th August
The second Qualifier is on tonight! All Australian riders go into this round in a strong position.

HAYLEY GETS TO RIDE.
Imke Schellekens-Bartels, who was placed 5th after the first round, has

for Imke and you wouldn't wish it upon anyone, the upside is that Australia's Hayley Beresford gets a second chance!

A hearty congratulations to Channel 7 for continuing to show Equestrian. Keep up the phone calls to request, and calls to thank them for

DRESSAGE - Grand Prix
CONGRATULATIONS To the Dressage riders!! The team has finished in 8th position, with Kristy qualifying to ride in the Grand Prix Special
and Hayley only just missing out on qualifying (she finished in 26th, but only the top 25 go through). Heath also did well, finishing in 35th.
Congratulations to the German Team for winning Gold in a tight battle to the end with Netherlands finishing with Silver. And Denmark, the
wonderful hosts of the streaming we rely so heavily on, got Bronze! They have finished just outside the medals so many times, so it's very
exciting to see some new flags on the podium.
The Grand Prix Special is on Saturday. Keep an eye out for Kristy, she managed to get through to the Special with a very difficult ride, just
imagine what she might be able to pull off if things are a little more settled!

JUMPING - First Qualifier
A brilliant performance by the Australian Showjumpers!!!
The team is currently sitting in 8th Position - ahead of Germany who are in 12th. What an outstanding start to their Olympic campaign.
Laurie was clear jumping with just one time fault, and what a round! Looked like he was just doing a small class at a local show so
calm and easy. Can't wait to see what future rounds will bring.
Matt, Edwina & Peter all had just 1 rail each with no time faults.

TV News Coverage 13th August 2008
These are a touch embarrassing!! But, I have to say that the media interest has been fabulous - the more exposure Equestrian gets the better!!
Apart from being temporarily unable to speak correctly I don't think I did too badly for my maiden TV interviews!! There has also been
interest from various radio stations. I was on ABC radio & SAFM this morning, and Megan said that Nova had called her last night for an
interview.

General Update 13th August 2008
OLYMPIC SILVER FOR THE AUSTRALIA EVENTING TEAM!!!!
Wow, what a night. I'm exhausted!!!! Excitement of the Silver Medal combined with the heartbreak of that final jump. But hey, how many
people can say that they had bred & trained their horse to Olympic level and won a Silver Medal? Not many I dare say. We are all so so
proud of Megan & Jester, and the entire Australian Team.
A whirlwind few days and I am totally exhausted! I have footage from the Showjumping, I will look toward having it up later today.
And I guess the next question is... will I continue these updates for other Equestrian Events? Sadly, not quite like I have for the eventing.
But I will endeavour to put up links for results & streaming to help guide you through. If you have any good links or information, by all means
email me and I will put it up here.
Thank you for the many many emails I have received - due to so many (well over 100 at last count), and being so busy I have not had a chance to
respond individually. But I have been truly floored by the emails received, and the gratitude shown. You are all more than welcome and I
have been only too happy to share the excitement of these few days.
Oh, and of course MASSIVE congratulations to the German Team - we pushed and challenged them the whole way and to their credit they hung on.
It was a hard fought competition for everyone, and all medals have been thoroughly deserved. A brilliant venue, spectacular course and
despite the coverage on Channel 7 being less than perfect, I don't think we should look a gift horse in the mouth. They did show as much as
they possibly could of the Aussie riders (the XC footage of Sonja & Shane was
disappointing, but out of CH7's control). Hopefully the TV
networks will be a little more aware of just how many people in Australia think Eventing is important. Their coverage of the Showjumping
was FANTASTIC! So much airtime!
SAVE ADELAIDE INTERNATIONAL HORSE TRIALS
A slight diversion from the excitement of the Olympic Games, but your help is needed!!
The Adelaide International Horse Trial is the only 4 Star competition in the Southern Hemisphere. Without this event, it makes it difficult
(and expensive!) for our Australian based riders to gain 4 Star exposure. The Australian based riders have shown that they are a force to
be reckoned with. They are Olympians of the highest calibre, and there are many more Australian based riders knocking on the door.
How can you help? Visit the
Adelaide City Council Public Consultation page for the Adelaide International Horse Trials. You can express your support for the Horse
Trials by filling out the form at the bottom of the page. NOTE comments are public record, so you might like to spell check and re-read your
comments before submitting (unlike me when writing here!!). Please take the time to show your support. We only get a chance once every 4
years to really push our sport in the eyes of the general public. We have just won an Olympic Silver Medal - lets make the most of it!!

General Update 12th August 2008
All the Aussie horses have pulled up well this morning. Everyone is looking forward to Showjumping tonight.
Just a heads up - I will be updating when I can tonight, but if the showjumping is being shown live on Channel 7, then I may well be away
from the computer!! I had arranged for a small gathering of friends here tonight and it's turning into something HUGE! Lots of people, TV
cameras and the lot!!
Megan's BLOG is being a bit strange in the way it is displaying in Internet Explorer. I am unable to identify
what the issue is at the moment. But in the interim, I have created a PAGE with links to all her posts.
Oh it's dark outside, that means that SJ is getting closer! The cold night air is barely noticeable because the buzz of excitement is
keeping us all warm (not to mention the fire roaring away in the lounge room)!!!
ALL AUSSIE HORSES HAVE PASSED THE TROT UP - LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!!
Ok - This is my last update for a while. Sorry guys, I have a house full of people and I'm too excited!! Hopefully Channel 7 will be good
and show it all live. All reports indicate that they will!!

Trot Up & Show Jumping - 12th August 2008
The trot up is scheduled for 4pm (HK) / 6pm (AEST)
Showjumping scheduled to start at 7.15pm (HK) / 9.15pm (AEST).
There will be two rounds. I believe the first round will be ridden in reverse team standings order
to determine team medals.
Then the top 25 riders will jump again in individual reverse order to determine individual medals (maximum of 3 riders per NOC).
Olympic Format & Rules
Keep calling Channel 7 (1300 737 507) to ask if they can televise the showjumping live. They will definitely be showing it at some point I
believe, but lets get onto them to show it live.

Megan's Cross Country - SMALL (6MB) ~
LARGE (30MB) ~
HUGE (50MB)
For the other cross country I figured I would just upload the sections that were televised on Channel 7. It was great to see some decent blocks
of Equestrian coverage!! I will only upload a small (poor quality) and
large (better quality) version for each session, because they are so long and the files are very large.
First Session - this includes riders from Clayton through to Lucinda. 20 minutes.
SMALL (20MB) ~ LARGE (100MB)
Second Session - this includes riders from Sonja through to Shane. 13 minutes.
SMALL (14MB) ~ LARGE (75MB)
10th August - Cross Country Updates
Mark Todd - Home with no jumping faults!!! 26 time faults (I think I heard that right)
Kyle Carter - Clear jumping, 18 time
Amy Tryon fall of horse & rider - that's elimination. Both are OK
CLAYTON - CLEAR 16.4 TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRILLIANT
Peter Thomson (Germany) has had a stop & 25.6 time
Vittoria cant spell last name - clear jumping 18.4 time
Austin O'Connor home clear jumping, 34.4 time
The course seems to be riding well. As expected, lots of time faults.
Lucinda on course now!! Oohhhh Mighty close to a flag!!! Ok though I think! Took the option at the double brushes. CLEAR JUMPING 27.2
time. Total 57.60 WELL DONE LUCINDA!!!!!
I think I'm going to be sick when Megan is on. This just tooo exciting!!
I'm going to go watch it on Channel 7 until Megan is on the streaming... so wont be updating here until just after 11am (SA time)
- but keep an eye on the team scores link! We're looking pretty strong!
I will be uploading the XC from Channel 7 at some point (my video card has been playing up, so I don't want to risk breaking it whilst the
XC is on. I have to rush off to work after, so will have to wait till I get home from work tonight).
Megan on soon... I am shaking!
Andrew Nicholson is walking home - fall of horse & rider I think. Both are ok.
Rebecca Holder on course now - HAS HAD A STOP
MEGAN ON COURSE - heard commentator say she's fastest on course so far. looking BRILLIANT CLEAR!!!! 15.6 time - YOU LITTLE
RIPPER!!!!!!!!
I'm shaking and crying and screaming. fan-bloody-tastic!!@!!!!!!!!!!!
Hinrich Romeike (Germany) in the lead on 50.2 - Megan into second on 51
Karin Donckers on course now 25.6 time, total 57.3, sneaks in just ahead of Lucinda
Ingrid Klimike (Germany) clear, 17.2 time. Total 50.7 - sneaks in just ahead of Megan.
Karen O'Conner (USA) - had a couple of stops & time I think
Sonja CLEAR!!! 13.6 time. 58.8 Total. Just behind Lucinda.
With Ingrid's good round - Germany are now just ahead of Australia
Well, are the Aussies doing us proud!! Just Shane to go now, and XC is Lucky's thing so I'm
sure we wont see a repeat performance of his dummy spit (perhaps yesterday he was just
trying to say he'd rather be jumping than doing dressage?). It's a tight competition and I
don't think we as spectators could ask for anything more exciting than what is unfolding in
Hong Kong. A brilliantly designed course is asking enough questions, time is tight, the going
is good - a perfect XC I would say (not that I'd go over it in a pink fit!). There are still
many riders to go XC, and then tomorrow is Showjumping. With the score so close, even a second
over time in SJ will dramatically change things.
Oh, and if you're like me and glued to the PC and not watching the swimming on TV -
you might like to know that Libby Trickett (sp?) just won gold in the 100m Butterfly.
Jessica Schipper got Bronze :)
Shane BRILLIANT!!!!! Clear jumping and 9.2 time. Total 62.5 - that should put them in 15th
GO AUSSIES!!!! 5 Five riders in the top 15 so far!!! Could not ask for a better performance.
Absolutely Brilliant!!!
Wow!!! What a morning!! I have to race off to work and wont be home til late - but will get the
XC on at some point tonight.
Australia and Sweden are the ONLY two teams to bring home ALL 5 riders with no jumping
penalties. And peopled were worried about a team of 5 Olympic rookies!! Well we've showed
them!!!!! And here's hoping this will stop the talk of Australian based riders being inferior!
They're tough, they're competitive, they're focused - and they have done us proud!!!
Heading into the second Vet Inspection & Showjumping Germany are in the lead on 158.10, with
Australia less than 1 rail behind on 162.00!! Great Britain are in third on 173.70.
Megan is the highest placed Australian at this point, sitting in the Bronze Medal spot on 51,
chomping at the heels of the German riders currently in Gold & Silver (50.3 and 50.7). Less than
1 second in it! Clayton just behind Megan on 53.4, Lucinda 11th on 57.6, Sonja 13th on 58.8
and Shane 16th on 62.5
Tomorrow night is going to be EXCITING!! I have already set up my lounge room. One TV for
Channel 7 and one TV for Internet Streaming!! Creating a bit of an 'Olympic atmosphere' at
home with some friends coming over to cheer on the Aussies. Channel 7 had better televise it
live!! I have rung them up SOOO many times telling them to show equestrian (you can call them
too - 1300 737 507. The more people that ring and ask for it to be show live the better!)
I just rang Channel 7 (1300 737 507) - they said SJ will be shown tomorrow, but he couldn't say if it would
be live. Everyone , ring Channel 7 and ask them to show it live. If we get enough people
calling then they just might do it!

August 10th 2008 - General update
An interview with Megan on the Horse Deals
site (under Downloads - Megan.wma)
-
Megan has updated her blog - she's very excited I think!!
-
Yippee for recording Channel 7. I was out, but have just gone back and had a look at Shanes test. Looks like the horse got a bug in his ear
or something? Shane certainly did a good job to hold him together for most of the test and come out with a respectable score compared to what
it could have been potentially.
-
Well, the dressage is over! Australia are in the lead and the competition is far from over! Cross Country tomorrow morning 8am HK time.
-
Shane has ridden, I didn't see his test at all (got my times muddled up!). He got a 53.5
-
Sonja has done her test. I didn't see much of it due to choppy streaming, but what I saw looked calm & consistent.
Good enough to get them a 45.2 and into 18th so far.
-
As expected, Ingrid Klimke has done a lovely test. Just sneaking ahead of Megan on 33.5
-
Well, another day dawns and we're at it again!! Not long now and Sonja & Shane will be out there doing Australia
proud.
Photos photos photos. Loads of photos, just like this typical "aren't I excellent" shot of Jester :) Just click
on the photo and it will take you to the gallery. Also includes a course walk.
Another you tube find! A Virtual Course Walk
- absolutely great. Only a few minutes long and shows each of the jumps. It is a big TOUGH course!
August 9th 2008 - General update
Just got to see the test properly on Channel 7, wonderful! Jester's such a good boy! Megan's ok too I suppose
(kidding, she's not really)... no, in all seriousness - Megan looked every bit the Olympian she is! :)
Just uploading the videos now (see below) :)
Oh, and just to clarify, I'm not actually over in HK (but you guys know that!) and our dad's name is Peter (not
Barry... or maybe my mum has something to say?) ha ha.
Sonja & Shane on tomorrow (sunday) morning - fingers crossed they produce some lovely tests as well :)
-
Oh wow!!! I have never been so frustrated with my computer screen before. I only saw bits and pieces of Megan's test, the
streaming was terrible. But it was streaming and I got to see something!! And I was still in tears by the end of
her test :) From what I could see, it was a great test - god they're good :) So so proud of Megan & Jester.
Hopefully I will catch it when Channel 7 televise the test and will put it up here (and have a good look at it
myself!).
-
Ok, so I now officially feel very ill! Not long to go until Megan rides. I can just picture it now, she's having
those final quiet words with Jester. Telling him that she's so proud of him and she needs him to try his hardest
tonight, and that she will too. If ever there was a time for them to shine - this is it. This is their moment.
Stepping into the Olympic arena after so many years of hard work and training. Go Festy! Go Megan!
-
Well, my dad thinks he died and gone to heaven... you see he's now in the nice air conditioned canteen with a cold
drink. He'd just finished walking the XC course and said he felt like he'd just walked the Kokoda Trail! But of
course Megan put him to shame, he saw her a moment ago and she'd just finished RUNNING the course! She's very
chipper and very excited about tonight.
He said the course is harder than the WEG last year. I'm sure there will be a LOAD of photos uploaded later today
from his course walk.
Oh, and thanks to everyone who has sent emails to me :) It's great to
know people are enjoying the updates.

August 8th 2008 - Panasonic Ad
Did you see it!! I nearly jumped through the TV - we hadn't seen it. Knew Megan was in the advert, but didn't know which bits of old footage
they would use. So exciting!! In case you missed it - here's the FULL advert and here's a
SHORT version (just Megan, and slowed down for good
measure).... we'll ignore that they say she's a Show Jumper, the important bit is "AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC".
For those interested, the grey horse is Maggie (or Magpie Dan) a great little pony who taught Megan & I lots in our youth. The buckskin is
Iddy (or Sunbury Idyllic. Though when I trained him up as a games pony I changed his name to Evil Angel - quite a brilliant little games pony
too!)
August 8th 2008 - Hong Kong Opening Ceremony
Since the Equestrian riders are unable to attend the official opening ceremony in Beijing, there was a smaller ceremony in HK. Megan carried
the Australian Flag! They will now go and watch the Beijing Opening Ceremony on a large screen.
August 8th 2008 - Trot Up
All Australian Horses have passed the first Vet Inspection.
All other horses have also passed, with the exception of 2 Chilean horses.
I will update with the rider order as soon as it's announced.
August 8th 2008
The wait is finally over!
The fogies (I mean, our loving wonderful parents) have landed in HK. My dad is already getting snap happy - I'm sure there will
be lots of photos over the course of the next week. Click HERE
Trot up is at 4pm today (HK time), Australia are the 14th team to present. Starting order will be announced after the trot up.
The course has been shortened to 8.5 minutes due to the weather conditions, and it's tight twisty and technical.
August 5th 2008
Well, it's nearly time!!
It's Emma (Megan's long suffering sister / biggest supporter / web guru) here. With my parents heading off to watch Megs & Jester do their
thing in Hong Kong, I'm staying home to look after you guys - all the people who, like me, will be glued to the nearest TV or PC.
I will try to keep this page up to date with results - 2 years ago for the WEG I managed to have results up quicker here than they were appearing
on the live results site... so we'll see how well I do this time round :)
Megan's diary updates will still be appearing on www.meganjoneseventingteam.com
It's been an interesting month or so. I said my good bye & good luck to Megan in early July when she set off for the training camp in Sydney.
I was excited when she was selected, but it wasn't earth shattering excitement like I thought it would be. Well... we're still a few sleeps
away from The Games and I can honestly say that I occasionally do a little jump in the air when thinking about how damn excited I am now!
So, if you're like me and doing the occasional 'hop' (I'll have to start calling myself 'Hands'... those who watch Boston Legal will know what
I'm on about). Then get set for a big week of excitement (not to mention bleary eyes on Wednesday morning next week!! It's gonna be a late night).
I have been keeping an eye out for the best places for live streaming, at this stage it looks like the NBC will be streaming 2,000 hours live.
I will put up some links soon.
