Current date and time in Aachen

 A message from Emma

Firstly, thank you to everyone for your support and feedback regarding the site. We have had an amazing number of hits, over 250,000 in August! It has been a big job keeping it up to date during the WEG, but it's been fun! Also a big thank you to Dez from EquineWebAustralia who designed this site nearly 2 years ago, it is very easy for me to maintain and update.

I am so proud of my big sis Megan, she really is an inspiration. And of course Jester, he's the best! Also a massive thank you to our dad, Peter, I really don't want to know how big his hotel internet bill was in Aachen! He spent hours uploading photos from the competition to share with us all. Both mummy & daddy have always been mine & Megan's biggest supporters - words don't do them justice, they are an amazing pair. Thank you guys, we love you and appreciate you so much! xxoo

Congratulations to the Aussie team, you guys did an awesome job!

Just because the eventing at the WEG has finished doesn't mean you should stop visiting! We always have photo updates, and we aim to show people the personal side of Kirby Park & the Megan Jones Eventing Team. Soon we'll also have some merchandise available, click HERE for more information.

Don't forget to sign up to our mailing list (above) if you would like to be informed about developments at Kirby Park.

Thank you again
Emma

TROT UP

All Australian horses have passed the trot up. An Italian horse has been eliminated in the trot up (not sure yet which one). German rider Dirk Schrade who was in 9th place after cross country is out of the competition (not sure yet whether via elimination at the trot up, or withdrawal prior to the trot up) - this moves Megan, Andrew and Phillip up one place.

It's Sunday, the final day of the Eventing competition at the World Equestrian Games. The trot up starts at 10am Aachen time, and then Showjumping is starting between 1-1.30pm Aachen time. Showjumping runs in reverse order of placings after Cross Country.

A top 5 Team finish will automatically qualify Australia for the Beijing Olympics (eventing). There are other opportunities for qualification, however lets all send good vibes for the team to go one better than top five and bring home a medal!

Jester is looking hot to trot, and all the other Aussie horses are also looking good.

Wow, talk about nail biting excitement! The cross country phase of the Aachen World Equestrian Games proved to be just as tough as everyone thought it would be.

Australia is in 4th place after the cross country, well within reach of a medal! Clayton is also in 4th position individually.

Top 6 teams after XC:
1st - GER 143
2nd - GBR 175
3rd - USA 190.1
4th - AUS 193.3
5th - SWE 198.2
6th - NZL 207.7

Andrew Hoy had a stop, but an otherwise great round.

Bettina Hoy, a "rip snorta" of a round. Clear with just 7.2 time faults (she took 2 long options) now on 43.7. Zara Phillips in the lead on 41.7

Clayton clear with 4.4 time faults (if the clock on the streaming was correct!)

Shane has retired - at 12d. No further information at this stage.

Megan & Jester looked fantastic out on course. Unfortunately a run out at the last water, along with 6 time penalties takes her score to 70.1. Phillip Dutton has stopped at exactly the same fence. It appeared Megan & Jester got a bad spot into the fence, and taking such a jump on an angle you really need to hit it perfectly. Jester is only a little horse, he never jumps by chance he always put his all into every fence. He's not the type to throw himself over a jump, so we can be thankful that he ran off as otherwise it may have been a fall if he did throw himself over the jump. We are so proud of Megan & Jester, they have done us proud.

Sonja has retired on course, early reports suggest that her horse was injured at fence 17. Best wishes to Sonja - the course is living up to expectations - very difficult.

The excitement is building!

It's an overcast day in Aachen, with a forecast for more rain. The ground is very spongy and will suffer under the hooves of 80 horses. There are also a number of steep up & down hill mounds which no doubt will cause a few issues as they get chopped up and slippery. It's going to be a long hard run out on cross country, particularly for those horses at the end of the day.

Cross Country Results:

Horse & Rider XC (Jump/Time/Total) Placing (provisional)
0305 Ringwould Jaguar - Sonja Johnson (Team) Retired
0306 Kirby Park Irish Jester - Megan Jones (Team) 20 / 6 / 70.1 19th
0301 Connaught - Phillip Dutton 20 / 12.4 / 84.1 31st
0307 All Luck - Shane Rose Retired
0302 Ben Along Time - Clayton Fredericks (Team) 0 / 4.4 / 48.8 4th
0303 Master Monarch - Andrew Hoy (Team) 20 / 6.8 / 74.4 23rd

 August 24th and 25th 2006

Dressage Overview

After 2 days of tough competition and at times questionable judging (at this level one would expect the judges to all be looking for the same thing), Australia is sitting in second place on a team score of 136.1 which puts them 13.6 points behind current leaders Germany on 122.5, with Great Britain in third on 138.6, the USA in fourth on 142 and New Zealand in fifth on 149.8.

With scores relatively close and still 2 days of competition remaining, it is impossible to predict the final places. The course is tough, it’s twisty and the going may get a little deep with all the rain. Tomorrow’s cross country is going to be exciting for riders, supporters and “fuzzy video stream” watchers all over the world.

And with such a physically demanding cross country, we are sure to see some rails falling on Sunday in the showjumping – let’s all keep our fingers crossed that they don’t fall for the Aussie riders!!

Megan has the best score of the Australian riders, sitting in 6th place on 44.1. Jester is all rested up and ready to go strong on cross country tomorrow.

Full results from the dressage can be viewed here.

Good luck to all the Aussie riders!

A good nights sleep seems to have done the trick for the judges at the WEG, after some considerably erratic judging yesterday the judges seem to be a little more cohesive today. This is providing an opportunity for better scores to those who do good tests. As expected, Bettina Hoy has set a new standard for day 2 of the competition. Keep your fingers crossed Andrew does a good test.

Australia was provisionally in the lead at the end of Day 1 on a score of 98.6, ahead of Germany on 99.3 with the USA in third on 101.1

Megan and Jester have put together yet another class act to be sitting in provisional first place for most of the first day. There are still many horses to come, but Megan & Jester have certainly set a new standard. Nice, accurate, flowing and with a little spark - a pleasure to watch. If people hadn't noticed the little Grey from Kirby Park, they will have now. What a little dynamite.

Dressage Results:

Horse & Rider Penalties / Percent Placing (provisional)
0305 Ringwould Jaguar - Sonja Johnson (Team) 54.5 / 63.7% 32nd
0306 Kirby Park Irish Jester - Megan Jones (Team) 44.1 / 70.62% 6th
0301 Connaught - Phillip Dutton 51.7 / 65.56% 25th
0307 All Luck - Shane Rose 52.4 / 65.06% 27th
0302 Ben Along Time - Clayton Fredericks (Team) 44.4 / 70.37% 7th
0303 Master Monarch - Andrew Hoy (Team) 47.6 / 68.27% 15th

Let the games begin!!!

The team has been announced:

TEAM (in riding order)
0305 Ringwould Jaguar - Sonja Johnson
0306 Kirby Park Irish Jester - Megan Jones
0302 Ben Along Time - Clayton Fredericks

0307 All Luck - Shane Rose

The trot up has been and gone. Andrew's horse was put in the holding pen and re-presented fine. The horses have to trot up on gravel and apparently it is a little slippery, so there is no concern about Master Monarch's soundness.

0303 Master Monarch - Andrew Hoy - PASSED
0305 Ringwould Jaguar - Sonja Johnson - PASSED
